The School of Design is composed of four departments that offer the various degrees. The Department of Architecture offers a Master of Architecture Professional Degree; Master of Architecture Post-Professional Degree; Master of Science in Architecture; and Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture. The Graduate Program in Historic Preservation is under the auspices of the Department of Architecture and offers a Master of Historic Preservation, a Certificate in Historic Preservation, and for applicants with a Master of Historic Preservation, an Advanced Certificate in Architectural Conservation. The Department of City and Regional Planning offers a Master of City Planning, a Doctor of Philosophy in City Planning, and a Post-Graduate Certificate in City and Regional Planning. The Department of Fine Arts offers a Master of Fine Arts with a concentration in Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, or Mixed Media. The Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning offers a Master of Landscape Architecture First Professional Degree, a Master of Landscape Architecture Second Professional Degree, and a Certificate in Landscape Studies, available to both post-masters and continuing students in Architecture, City Planning, and Fine Arts. In addition we offer an Urban Design Certificate and a Certificate in Real Estate Design and Development. The Urban Design Certificate can be taken in conjunction with the Master of Architecture, Master of Science in Historic Preservation, Master of City Planning, or Master of Landscape Architecture degree. Applicants for City and Regional Planning who wish to apply for the Urban Design Certificate may also prefer to secure first their admission to the MCP program and apply for the certificate program during the following Fall semester. The Certificate in Real Estate Design and Development is offered in cooperation with the Wharton School.
Program Requirements
Applicants for the Master of Architecture Post-Professional Degree must have five-year professional Bachelor of Architecture degrees. Applicants for the Master of Landscape Architecture Second Professional Degree must hold Bachelor of Landscape Architecture or Bachelor of Architecture degrees. Applicants for the Master of Fine Arts must have completed Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees or Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees with at least two years of studio work.
Dual Degree Programs
Application to dual degree programs within the School of Design may be made by indicating on the application form the two degrees applied for. Applications for dual degree programs involving other schools of the University should be noted on the application form. They will require independent application to each degree.
