The Don Prowler Endowment Fund
The Fund supports the Don Prowler Prize, awarded annually to a PennDesign graduate student whose work advances the design of sustainable architecture. In addition, the Fund supports the annual Don Prowler Lecture in Sustainable Design.
Don, a Fellow of the American Institue of Architects and a dedicated and passionate teacher, led the Department of Architecture's initiative in teaching energy and form in the '70's and '80's.
Family, friends and colleagues gathered in June 2007 to celebrate the installation of the Don Prowler Memorial Sundial at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, CO. The sundial was designed as a lasting tribute to Don as former chairman of the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council (SBIC), and for his work supporting solar energy in the built environment.
Helen English, Executive Director of the SBIC, remarked: "Don inspired architects and students alike. His consistent, thoughtful approach to problem solving resulted in the rare ability to both develop and articulate solutions. He understood the fundamentals of good building design, systems and materials, and at the same time demanded precision and beauty in all of his work."
Help to build a lasting legacy for Don at PennDesign by supporting the growth of the Prowler Endowment Fund, which now totals nearly $100,000.
