Pamet River Scholarship

The Pamet River Foundation has established a scholarship in the Department of Architecture for mid-career women who enroll in the Master of Architecture professional degree program. The scholarship will provide $12,000 each year for the duration of the three-year program. To qualify for the scholarship, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen, female, and 35 years or older. The scholarship will be available to applicants beginning in Fall 2000.

"The existence of the Pamet River Foundation Scholarship will enable us to actively respond to a social condition and a personal situation facing many women today," commented Richard Wesley, Head of the Department of Architecture. "While there are many reasons for a young woman to defer graduate studies, it is sometimes difficult for her to make a commitment to graduate studies in architecture in the middle of her life. The daunting prospect of three years of full-time graduate study, followed by at least two years of internship and a comprehensive licensing examination, means she'll be over forty years old before becoming a licensed architect. These women need to be motivated, encouraged, and supported at this critical junction in their lives. Architecture needs them and they need financial support and encouragement. The Pamet River Foundation Scholarship will enable us to offer these women both encouragement and support."
