Wendy Evans Traveling Scholarship

A Scholarship has been established for undergraduate majors in Architecture [formerly Design of the Environment]. The Wendy Evans Traveling Scholarship provides approximately $2,000 each year to a qualifying junior in the undergraduate Architecture program. The purpose of the scholarship, established by Wendy Evans Joseph, C '77, is to support summer travel to study the natural and built environment in any area of the world.

"It is so important for students of architecture to experience the natural and built environment in other parts of the world," commented Richard Wesley, Undergraduate Program Chair. "The generosity of Wendy Evans Joseph will enable us to support undergraduate students who may otherwise not be able to travel abroad. It's a wonderful opportunity for our undergraduate students."

To be eligible for this scholarship a student must be a junior in the undergraduate major in Architecture who will be returning to the University of Pennsylvania as a senior in the following academic year. In addition, the student must be available to accept the scholarship in person at the May graduation reception. Award recipients must document work undertaken during the travel period in a journal or portfolio and submit the original document to the Department of Architecture within six-months of completion of the travel period.

Students who wish to apply for this scholarship must submit a proposed travel itinerary, portfolio, and resume. Applications will be reviewed by a faculty committee who will identify the top three proposals based on the submission, academic performance, and future promise. These will be reviewed by the Undergraduate Program Chair and Wendy Evans Joseph. The winner of the scholarship will be announced each year in early April.
