On Wednesday, September 3rd, Bjarke Ingels visited PennDesign to kick off our Fall 2014 lecture series. In 2005, Bjarke Ingels started BIG Bjarke Ingels Group which is now is one of the world’s most advanced studios in the definition of urban scenarios and horizons. His presentation, entitled "WORLD CRAFT", Bjarke explores the ways in which people are drawn to build and how the field of architecture is the manifestation of this curiosity. In his own words, Bjarke describes his lecture in the following way:
"Architecture is the craft of creating the world – our world – the same way that people are drawn to Minecraft and LEGO where they feel empowered with the tools and skills to create and manipulate their own environments and inhabit them through play. Architecture must become world craft where people can feel invited to contribute to the creation of the world of their dreams. At its finest architecture turns the world of fiction – our imagination – into fact – our reality." – Bjarke Ingels
