Assistant Professor of Architecture - Environmental Building Design

 

The School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania, seeks a senior faculty member to lead the Department of Architecture as Chairman, beginning in July 2012.

The position requires a person with the ability to provide exceptional leadership in advancing the field of Architecture and Architectural Education, and contributing to the visibility and strategic vision of PennDesign, through collaboration with the Dean, other department and program leaders, and faculty. Individuals with an established, national or international reputation, intellectual and design leadership in the field of architecture, and/or education as evidenced in a distinguished record of teaching, professional accomplishment, scholarship and/or research are encouraged to apply. Assistant Professor of Architecture - Environmental Building Design

The Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania seeks qualified applicants for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor for the 2012-2013 academic year beginning July 1, 2012. This is a tenure-track appointment to the standing faculty, who are responsible for maintaining and extending the discipline of architecture through their teaching, scholarship, and participation in the governance of the Department and School.

The position is for candidates qualified to offer graduate-level instruction in environmental technologies, building performance simulation, and/or environmental building design. Faculty members in all specializations are involved in design instruction at some level, and applicants should demonstrate how their work contributes in this area. At Penn, instruction in architecture is offered at the undergraduate, professional, post-professional, and doctoral levels, and environmental topics have been integrated in different ways at each level, including an undergraduate dual-major in Environmental Studies, a master level certificate program in Ecological Architecture, and a post-professional Master of Environmental Building Design. Teaching may occur at all levels, and there is also an established research unit in the subject area, the TC Chan Center for Building Simulation and Energy Studies.

Applicants should describe their agendas for research and/or design practice in their area of specialization, and have some experience in teaching. At a minimum, they should have a Master of Architecture or a PhD in the area of specialization. A review of applications will begin on October 1, 2011 and continue until the position is filled.
