MUSA Brown Bag Lunch - "Managing City Vacant Properties"
Guy Thigpen, Assistant Director at the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority, will kick off a brown bag lunch series hosted by the Master of Urban Spatial Analytics program. He will focus on the proposed solution to the vacancy problem – 40,000+ vacant properties in Philadelphia. The presentation will focus on why these City owned properties serve as a major blighting factor, the uncoordinated and obscure system to obtain City-owned property, the culture of devaluing all property in Philadelphia, and some opportunities and threats facing Philadelphia if the problem persists. He will then walk through the process the RDA has established to address the problem and report on the effectiveness.
