Changing of the Guard: A New Vision for Fort Monmouth

AWARD: AICP Best Student Project Award
PROJECT SUMMARY
The closing of Fort Monmouth, which must be completed no later than September 2011 as per federal regulations under the Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC), might occur in as few as two years. Redevelopment is a reality, and it is approaching quickly. The host communities and the Local Reuse Committee (the Committee) must prepare a cohesive and decisive strategy for the redevelopment of Fort Monmouth if they are to prevent the unmitigated liquidation of the property to the highest bidder.
This report focuses on how the host communities can most effectively plan for the redevelopment of Fort Monmouth once the Army vacates it. The purpose of the studio to provide guidance to the Local Reuse Committee (the Committee) and, eventually, to the Local Reuse Authority (LRA), in planning for the redevelopment of Fort Monmouth once the base is vacated by the United States Army.
