Janet Weiner

Ph.D. Area of Study: The health effects of neighborhoods, and the potential impact of inner-city revitalization on reducing health disparities

Janet Weiner, MPH is Associate Director for Health Policy at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at Penn. In that capacity, she works with multidisciplinary teams to conduct health services research and to develop strategies to disseminate research results to policymakers. Prior to coming to Penn, she was a Research Associate for the American College of Physicians, where she researched and wrote College position papers on health policy, ethics, and clinical practice.

She holds a journalism degree from Northwestern University, a masters degree in liberal arts from Johns Hopkins University, and a masters degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University.

Janet is pursuing a doctorate on a part-time basis as she continues in her position at Penn. She is keenly interested in programs that improve the lives of residents of impoverished neighborhoods, having grown up in a public housing project in the Bronx. She has nearly completed her coursework requirements and is interested in analyzing the community effects of Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program as a dissertation topic.
