Lou Huang
Hometown: Fremont, CA
Undergraduate Degree: UC Berkeley, Architecture
Favorite City: Vancouver
Planning Concentration: Urban Design
How did you get interested in planning?
I spent about three years designing coffee shops. It was fun while it lasted but after a while I wanted to set my sights on something bigger. Much bigger. I've always been interested in cities and I took a couple city planning courses in undergraduate. I figured cities are the biggest things anyone can design, so I did that.
What was your background prior to coming to Penn?
Architecture. Coffee shops. This was 75% of my life and the irony is I don't even drink coffee.
Why did you choose Penn to study city planning?
My old boss went here so I figured if he wrote a letter of recommendation I'd be a shoe-in for sure.
What has been your favorite class so far?
This is going to be a BIG SURPRISE: the urban design one.
Are you involved in any planning related activities?
I'm on the staff of Panorama, the city planning department journal. Primarily I make it look pretty.
What are your career ambitions?
Marry rich, rule the world. I will also settle for happiness.
