Inbox Download

So now you've graduated and you want to take all of your e-mails with you. You can do this by logging into your Webmail account and selecting "Folders" on the top menu bar. After selecting "Folders" you will see a list of your available inboxes - you should have just one. Check the box next to "Inbox" and select from the Actions drop down menu "Download Inbox". This will prompt you to download your inbox in an mbox file format. This link will take you to a page which will download a ZIP'd file containing the mbox reader. That's it.

End of Term - Back Up Data

If you haven't already, you'll soon be packing up and moving out of your studio. Before you go, please be aware of the following scheduled account and course folder maintenance to take place over the summer. Please don't assume that all data currently located on the servers will still be there in September.

Remote Access to the rescue! If you’ve already left campus and would like to access any of your data, remember that you have access to all personal and course folder data via the Remote Access Web Interface (www.design.upenn.edu/remoteaccess).

Information for Graduating Students

ALL GRADUATING STUDENT ACCOUNTS AND ASSOCIATED DATA WILL BE PERMANENTLY DELETED ON JUNE 30th. Any data you wish to keep must be saved to alternate sources (e.g. CD, DVD, external drive, etc) before this time. THERE WILL BE NO TAPE BACKUPS KEPT OF THIS DATA! RESTORATION WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE!
Students will continue to have printer/plotter access until accounts are deleted (6/30/08).
E-mail accounts will remain active until October. This should provide students with an opportunity to make other e-mail arrangements. You will receive deletion notices with more details from the POBOX administrators in September.

Information for Returning Students

All individual accounts and associated data for returning students will be left intact over the summer. This will allow students to continue to work on summer projects if necessary and ease the fall transition. If a password is forgotten at any time, please see a member of the PennDesign IT staff for assistance.
All course folder data from Spring 2008 will be purged on June 30th. Course Folder data will be saved to tape for archival purposes only. Restoration of Course Folder data must be authorized by the instructor or department coordinator. Project Folders stored on JOVE are considered ongoing projects and will NOT be purged without prior notice.
As a reminder, "Session" drives on lab computers are intended for temporary data storage only. This data may be deleted by any user at any time to make room for other data. In addition, "Session" drives may be formatted completely by IT staff during lab maintenance over the summer. This data is never backed up and is therefore NOT recoverable.
Please contact the PennDesign IT Staff [ithelp@design.upenn.edu] if you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy.

Phishing Scam

PennDesign IT Services has been alerted to a new "Phishing" scam which is specifically targeting universities. If you’re unfamiliar with phishing, Wikipedia defines it as "an attempt to criminally and fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication."

Recently an e-mail has circulated at several universities, including Princeton, Columbia, Purdue, and others. Reports indicate that it will appear to come from a university IT organization with a legitimate e-mail address. The message will likely request you to "verify" your e-mail account information by providing your username and password. It may further indicate that failure to do so will result in the deactivation of the account.

As always, passwords should never be provided to any individual or organization, particularly via e-mail or phone. Please note that some phishing e-mail may include links to convincing websites. Use caution whenever receiving unexpected e-mail from a financial or credit institution. For more information, please see the following online resources:

Information for Returning Students

In order to provide a clean slate for students returning in the fall, ALL HOME DIRECTORIES ON JUNO WILL BE PERMANENTLY DELETED ON JUNE 30th. This includes all data located in the "My Documents" folder as well as any data stored on the "Desktop". Any data you wish to keep must be saved to alternate sources (e.g. CD, DVD, external drive, etc) before this time. THERE WILL BE NO TAPE BACKUPS KEPT OF THIS DATA! RESTORATION WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE!

The actual accounts will not be deleted and passwords will not be reset for returning students. This will allow students to continue to work on summer projects if necessary and ease the fall transition. If a password is forgotten at any time, please see a member of the PennDesign IT staff for assistance.

All course folder data from Spring 2007 will be purged on June 30th. Course Folder data will be saved to tape for archival purposes only. In addition, "Session" drives may be formatted complete by IT staff during lab maintenance over the summer. This data is never backed up and is therefore NOT recoverable.
