DATA Storage
Students are provided with 2GB of network storage in which to save personal data (faculty and staff are provided with 5GB). This includes all data saved to the Desktop or My Documents folder. All data stored on the file server is backed up on a daily basis with precautions taken to address potential hardware failure or disaster recovery. Users are encouraged to keep as much critical working data as possible on this resource. Users are also encouraged to archive any static data (e.g. work from previous semesters) to alternate sources (e.g. external hard drives, optical media, etc.).
Lab Access
Students who login to public Windows workstations will automatically connect to their network-based “Desktop” data as well as the My Documents folder. Windows users can also access this data via the H: Drive within My Computer. Students who login to Mac workstations will see a folder called username$ which will contain the Desktop and My Documents folders.

Studio Access
The easiest way to connect to your home folder from a Windows computer directly connected to the PennDesign network (e.g. in a studio) is to open the Run command from the Start Menu and enter \\juno\username$ (where username is their PennDesign username in the Open field.
Remote Acess
To access network-based storage remotely, simply login to the PennDesign Remote Access web interface using your PennDeisgn username and password: www.design.upenn.edu/remoteaccess.
Session Drives On PennDesign Computers
Students that use PennDesign Computers may store data on local SESSION drives. These drives are labeled as (D:)drives on the PC (found under "My Computer" on the Desktop). On the Mac's, the drive will appear on the desktop as "SESSION" or "MEDIA STORAGE". These are intended as temporary storage resources to improve performance of highly demanding software or for very large files. Session data is NOT backed up and can be erased at any time by the IT staff or any user of the workstation. It should not be relied upon to store data for more than the duration of the login.
