Lab Computers and Software
PennDesign Computing provides computing resources for all PennDesign students. Students have priviledges to use labs supported by Penndesign computing. Locations include Addams, Meyerson and Morgan Buildings. However, only students enrolled in Digital Video classes may have access to the DIgital Video Lab located in room 206 in Addams. Access on the computers is via a PennDesign computer account. For more information about obtaining an account please visit the usernames and passwords tipsheet.

Classes are over! If you haven't already, you'll soon be packing up and moving out of your studio. Before you go, please be aware of the following scheduled account and course folder maintenance to take place over the summer. Please don't assume that all data currently located on the servers will still be there in September.

Addams
Digital Video (DVLab) - 2nd floor Rm 206
This lab may be used ONLY by students who are enrolled in classes that teach digital video. The lab is open 24 hours a day. Individual logons will be provided for all students in the DVLab for security reasons. The lab contains the following:
- 12 stations
- 9 Quad 2.5 Ghz G5s running 10.4.11
- 1 Dual 2.5 Ghz G5 running 10.4.11
- 500 GBs of work space (Session Drive)
- DVD/CD Burner
- 2 Firewire 400 ports
- 2 Firewire 800 ports
- 1 Dual 2.0 Ghz G5 running 10.4.11 "Digital Audio Station"
- Keyboard and Digital Audio Sound System accompanies the workstation
- All machines have 20" flat panel monitors
- Sony Trinitron PVM-14N5U 14" color video monitor at 9 stations
- 1 20 inch Sharp Aquos Flat Panel HDTV
- 1 La Cie Blu-Ray DVD Burner
- 1 Toshiba Blu-Ray DVD Player
- 1080p HD Projector with computer, DVD Player, VCR Player connected to it and stereo amplifier
External Firewire drives may be checked out at the Photo Equipment Cage (located in the basement of Addams).
Addams MAC Lab - Basement
This lab may be used by any student enrolled in PennDesign classes. Access on the machines is via a PennDesign computer account. For more information about obtaining an account please visit the usernames and passwords tipsheet. The lab contains the following:
- 21 stations - Mac Pro Quad 2.66 GHz Intel running Mac OS 10.5x
- 2 Dual Layer DVD Burners
- 2 GBs of Memory
- 500 GB of work space (SESSION drive)
- 2 firewire 800 ports
- 2 firewire 400 ports
- All machines have 20" flat panel monitors
- Each station has a Wacom Intuos 2 Graphics Tablet
There is an EPSON HD projector for presentation needs.
There are 3 printers in the Maclab:
- HP DesignJet 5500 42" Large Format Plotter
- Phaser 7750GX color laser printer
- HP 8150 LaserJet B/W printer
- 2 Epson Stylus Photo 1280 color ink jet printers (not networked)
A PC has been setup in the practice lab area so students printing from the Macs can see their print jobs in the print queue.
The lab also contains flatbed, slide scanners and a film recorder. For a list of these please visit the scanning/digital imaging page.
Addams PC Lab (Animation) - 1st Floor Rm 106
This lab may be used by any student enrolled in PennDesign classes. Access on the machines is via a PennDesign computer account. For more information about obtaining an account please visit the usernames and passwords tipsheet.The lab contains the following:
- 21 stations - Dual 3.2 GHz Dell Precision Workstation 670 running Windows XP
- Dell 20" flat panel monitors
- Memory - 1 GB
- CD-RW drives
- 250 Zip Drives
- 55 GB work space (SESSION DRIVE)
- 2 firewire ports (1 in front, 1 in back)
- 4 USB ports (2 in front, 2 in back)
- Each station has an Wacom Intuos 2 Graphics tablet
Each station contains a WACOM drawing tablet. There are several flatbed and slide scanners available for use, including a large (11 x 17) flatbed scanner. There is a B/W laser printer located in the lab. In addition, there is an Epson PowerLite 7250 projector along with a Sony CD/DVD (DVP-NS415) player for use by instuctors.
There is an EPSON PowerLIte 820P projector for presentation needs. In addition, there is a Sony CD/DVD player (DVP-NS415). There is one HP LaserJet 8000 B/W printer in the Animation Lab. For a complete list of software on these machines, please visit here.
Meyerson
PC Lab (Graphics Lab) - 3rd Floor Rm 321
This lab may be used ONLY by students who are enrolled in PennDesign courses. Access on the machines is via a PennDsign computer account. For more information about obtaining an account please visit the usernames and passwords tipsheet. The lab contains the following:
- 17 stations - Dual 3.2 GHz Dell Precision 490 Workstations running Windows XP Pro
- Memory - 2 GB
- CD/RW and DVD+-RW drives
- 40 GB of work space (Session drive)

Users have access to several printers and plotters:
- 1 Textronix Phaser 7700GX Color Laser Printer
- 2 HP B/W LaserJet Printers (8150N & 8000N)
- 2 HP DesignJet 5000 PS 42" Large Format Plotters
- 3 HP DesignJet 1055 36" Large Format Plotters

DV Editing station - 3rd Floor Rm 324

- Memory - 2GB
- Apple 17" flat panel monitor
- Sony DHR-1000 DV recording deck
- Sony Trinitron PVM-14N1U 14" Color video monitor
The 321 PC Lab is used at various times for teaching. Please refer to the schedule posted in the lab or view it online.
The Vidar Large Format Scanner
A large format scanner is avaible for students to scan their art work with. Scans will be ready approximately 24 hours after drop off. Please, do not submit more than two jobs per 24 hour period. For more info on the Vidar scanner, click here.
