Penn Live E-mail
PennDesign has partnered with Microsoft to release the Penn Live service, which is based largely on the Microsoft Live@edu suite of services. The primary component of Penn Live is a Microsoft Exchange account which includes Email, calendar, contacts, and task management, all of which can be shared as desired with your peers on the Penn Live network. This isn’t just a Hotmail or Gmail account… It’s the same service used by many large organizations for internal and external communications and collaboration. Your Penn Live Email account will have a 10 GB quota and is accessible using a web browser (Internet Explorer and Firefox are recommended for full functionality). You may also connect using many IMAP Email clients such as Thunderbird or Apple Mail for Email access only.
Penn Live is currently available for new students only. This new service will be made available to returning students at a later date (likely Fall 2009).
Penn Live Email is part of a larger Penn Live implementation of Microsoft Microsoft Live@edu which has a number of other social networking features and web applications. You can create personal web pages, and pages for events. You'll have online storage for up to 25GB of data (50MB limit per file). You'll also be able to share documents and photos with other people, even those not at Penn. Please note that the PennDesign IT staff is supporting the Email component only. Microsoft has online help for the other features and you should use those resources rather than contact ithelp.
Students are expected to utilize the @design.upenn.edu email address as this will be the mechanism for official announcements from the School and the University.
For more information see our FAQ and the Microsoft Live@edu website.
