January 28, 2013 Careers for MFAs - Alumni Panel

Panelists are alumni of the School of Design, and will discuss their experiences after graduating, which may include international programs, public art, residencies, creating artist galleries and teaching. The panel will be moderated by Joshua Mosley, Chair of the Fine Arts Department, School of Design.

February 6, 2013 Information Session - Opportunities with HOK
12:00-1:30pm in Meyerson B3
Presented by: Yan Wang, the Director of Planning for HOK's Asia Pacific Network, who is also a UPenn alumnus
12:00 Noon presentation; opportunity to network and informally interview afterwards
Mr. Wang will be giving a brief introduction and a short lecture about the practice of Urban Design and Planning in China, an introduction to HOK's role and past projects in the China market, an understanding of the culture of HOK's offices in Beijing and Shanghai, and of course will take any questions at the end of the session. ALL PennDesign students with an interest in the work of HOK are welcome to attend.
After the Q&A session Mr. Wang will stay and informally meet any students with interest and collect their resumes and give them his contact information for further discussions. He has interest in applicants from across PennDesign (he mentioned specifically: Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design) as there may be possibilities in all of those areas within HOK's offices in Beijing and Shanghai.

Melissa Franklin, Director, Pew Fellowships in the Arts, The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, Philadelphia, PA
Melissa Franklin will talk about the Pew Fellowships in the Arts, a program of the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage that awards "no-strings attached" grants of $60,000 to artists working in a wide variety of performing, visual, and literary disciplines. Up to 12 fellowships are awarded annually to artists of exemplary talent in the five-county Philadelphia area. In addition to the monetary award, the fellowships work with the grantees over a two-year period to connect them to resources and opportunities that will propel their practice forward.

Penn MFA
David C. Terry, will talk about the opportunities and fundraising services offered by NYFA to artists nationwide. NYFA's programs will be covered with an emphasis on the following: finding grants, residencies, and more using NYFA Source, a directory of over 10,000 arts opportunities, raising corporate, foundation, and government grants through NYFA's fiscal sponsorship program, Artspire, and learning practical strategies on how to sustain you artistic practice.

March 20, 2013 Career Services Walk-in Advising/Resume Reviews
12:00 to 1:30pm in Meyerson B3
Career Advisors will hold 15 minute walk-in appointments in Meyerson Hall B3. These brief meetings are an opportunity for graduate students of PennDesign to have quick questions about careers or job searching answered, or to have job and internship application materials reviewed. Pre-registration is not required; however students will be seen on a first come, first serve basis. You cannot reserve a space, so plan to come early. In addition, walk-ins are held in Career Services (McNeil Building) daily. To make an appointment with a career advisor, or to check walk-in hours at Career Services, please call: 215 898-7530.
March 22, 2013 PennDesign Career Connection Day 2013

This annual spring career fair is open to all PennDesign students. The fair is an excellent way for firms and organizations to connect with students, make their work known and recruit for available full- and part-time positions, as well as summer opportunities.
