Last modified: 04.21.08

An online scheduling system is available at the following address:

http://www2.design.upenn.edu/cgi-bin/calweb/calweb.exe?cal=Laser_Cutters

Users can access the Online Scheduling System through one of two methods depending on the Web client used (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari) (Safari in OS X 10.3 is not supported

1) Enter your PennDesign username and password . Note: this is the same password used to login to PennDesign lab computers. When prompted for username, you must preface your username with "design\". For example, if your username is "jsmith", you would enter "design\jsmith". (see illustration below)

If you do not have a PennDesign account, you may request an account by visiting the IT staff on the 3rd floor of Meyerson Hall.

2) If prompted for all 3, enter your username, followed by your password and domain.

User name: username

Password: password

Domain: design

Sign-up times will become available at 6:00 AM on the Saturday preceding the week to be scheduled. For example, at 6:00 AM on Saturday, October 7th, the sign-up for Sunday, October 8th through Saturday, October 14th will become active.

Students may sign up for no more than (2) thirty-minute time slots per week (one hour in total per week).

Violators of this policy will have laser cutter privileges suspended for three weeks.

• All work must be completed within your allotted time slot and may not run over into some other student’s time.

• Please plan your work carefully!

If there are open time slots during any scheduled day, on that day any student may sign up in advance for one additional time slot.

All other unused time slots are available on a first-come first-served basis to any student regardless of how much laser cutting they may have already done in that week.

• Example: On Saturday, you signed up for one half-hour slot on Tuesday and one half-hour slot on Wednesday. On Thursday morning, you noticed that there was a half-hour slot open that afternoon, so you signed up for it. On Friday, you came up to the laser room at 1:00 and noticed that no one was cutting, so you asked the operator to cut some files for you.

You must sign up using your own name only. You may not sign up using any other person’s name.

• Violators of this policy will have laser cutter privileges suspended for three weeks.

Please show up promptly for your scheduled time. If you are more than five minutes late, you will forfeit your time to the first available student.

Please remember that it is not the responsibility of the laser cutter to complete your cut list within your scheduled time.

Dennis Pierattini will resolve all scheduling conflicts.  Do not approach the laser operators or faculty members to resolve conflicts.

Three incidences of failure to show up for your scheduled time in one semester will result in suspension of your laser cutting privileges for the remainder of the semester.

• Appointments must be cancelled at least three hours in advance of your scheduled time.

Students are reminded that disrespect to the laser operator will result in an indefinite suspension of laser cutting privileges.
