Philadelphia is a historic city. In the U.S. it is arguably THE historic city, as the birthplace of independence and all. Our students have a unique opportunity to explore the city as a living laboratory, and not just for personal enjoyment; much of this exploration is also significant for their professional development as preservationists, architects, designers, artists, and planners. One organization that aids with this development is the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia, which advocates for the preservation of historic properties and regularly holds architecture walking tours around the city. There are two tours coming up this weekend, Up and Over the Ben Franklin Bridge and Rittenhouse Square Sacred Sites – check them out if you have a chance!
