Student Internships

All students are required to fulfill a summer internship during the summer between their first and second year.

The Merchant's Exchange Building located in Independence National Historical Park was design by William Strickland and Built in 1831. Six students worked to develop a comprehensive conditions survey of the exterior of the building.

Bandelier National Monument, located outside of Los Alomos, New Mexico, contains hundreds of ancestral Pueblo dwellings. Through a cooperative agreement between the Penn Preservation program and the National Park Service, Roy Ingraffia, Shelly Purdue and Laura Mass recorded conditions within these dwellings as well as applied treatment to the fragile wall surfaces.

Located in the center of the city of Rome, the Orto Botanico, or Botanical Garden, was the site of an academic course spanning two years which offered interested students the opportunity to get academic credit while fulfilling their intership requirement. For 4 weeks during the summer of 2003, 13 students from the Penn Preservation program worked on developing a comprehensive conservation plan for the gardens.

The Second Bank of the United States located in Independence National Historical Park was designed by William Strickland and built in 1818. John Glavan, Lauren Hegerty, John Howard, Kerry Johnston and Sophie Middlebrook worked to develop a comprehensive conditions survey of the exterior of the building.
