This one-day workshop will address the problematic issues of masonry contaminated with soluble salts. The deterioration risks that these salts may cause and their damage mechanisms will be discussed. The importance of a correct diagnosis regarding the origin of the salts and the moisture that allows them to move within the masonry will be addressed. Possible solutions to the problem will be presented and a brief discussion on issues of consolidation or the application of water repellents.
