The
conditions of the exterior marble of the North and West facades
were recorded during an extensive field survey in the summer of
1999. The survey utilized a defined set of conditions to objectively
quantify the types of deterioration patterns found on the exterior
marble. (See the Glossary of Masonry Conditions
for definitions and illustrations of the conditions surveyed.)
The conditions were indicated on existing architectural drawings
using a specified array of colors and graphic symbols grouped
according to those requiring intervention (red), those requiring
monitoring (green), and those requiring routine maintenance (blue).
The field drawings were then digitized for further analysis using
AutoCAD®. Every condition, as well as any distinct architectural
features (e.g., joints), was digitized and placed on its own layer
in AutoCAD®. This allows specific conditions (layers) to be
turned on or off in order to view the drawings in various relational
contexts. The links below show examples of the drawings that were
made of the North and West facades of the Second Bank during the
1999 Survey.
