| FACULTY TO BE HONORED AT ASLA |
| Laurie Olin will receive the ASLA Design Medal in honor of his accomplishments in design at this month's ASLA Conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Olin is practice professor of landscape architecture at PennDesign and a founding partner of the Olin Partnership, Philadelphia. The ASLA Medal of Excellence will be awarded to the Regional Plan Association for its significant contributions to landscape architecture policy, research, education, project planning and design. Robert Yaro, professor of practice in the department of city and regional planning at PennDesign, is president of the Regional Plan Association. |

| Detlef Mertins, chair of the department of architecture, will deliver a lecture at the Architectural Association of London, 34-36 Bedford Square, on Thursday, October 20 at 6:30pm. Fifteen PennDesign students are in residence at the AA this semester. If you're in the area, we hope you will come to meet the chair and our current students. |

| Rachel Frank MFA'05 has been awarded the International Sculpture Center's Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award for 2005. Her work will be on view at the Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton, NJ, from October 8 through January 8. |
| Deepta Sateesh MCP'00 moved to Bangalore, India and is working as business development manager for Jones Lang Lasalle. Bangalore has become a hot-spot for real estate investments and development opportunities for local and international design firms. |

| Kathryn McFadden MFA'97 announces that her solo exhibition Outlooks is on view this month at the Camden County College Art Gallery, Blackwood, NJ. The show explores issues of identity through life-size full-length charcoal portraits of teenagers on which the subjects write text about themselves in the negative space. |
| Paul Stremple MFA'91 associate partner, Breuker Design, Ltd, has designed a BananaBunker®, which will be included in the Museum of Modern Art's upcoming exhibition SAFE: Design Takes on Risk from October 15 through January 2. Stremple's product, which keeps bananas safe from harm, was highlighted in the July/August issue of the Gazette. |

| Dennis Canty MRP'83 recently developed a $1.2 billion financing strategy for recovery of Puget Sound salmon populations. He is president of Evergreen Funding Consultants, a Seattle firm specializing in financing regional environmental initiatives. |
| Scott Simons MArch'80 reports that his firm, Scott Simons Architects, Portland, ME, is designing four buildings for the Tilton School in Tilton, NH: a 32,000 SF academic building, a 36 bed residence hall, an 8,000 SF admissions/alumni building, and renovations to a 24,000 SF academic/administration building. Scott recently dropped his son off at UCSB and is now an empty nester. |
| Marsha Wooley MFA'86 was selected, along with 25 other alumni from her undergraduate program at Metropolitan State College of Denver, to exhibit her work in the show Metro Effect through October 29 at the Center for Visual Art, 1743 Wazee Street, Denver, CO. |

| Shirley Chang MArch'77 is the principal/founder of Chang Bene Design Ltd in Hong Kong and New York. In 1995, she relocated to Hong Kong from New York to oversee projects in China. The firm's project list includes the People's Palace of Nationalities (East wing) in Beijing. Chang has served as adjunct professor of architecture at the Chinese University of Hong Kong since 2003. She is an active member of the AIA /Hong Kong chapter, and founded the chapter's newsletter, serving as editor from 1999-2002. She also contributes articles to Architectural Record's US and China editions. |
| Lydia Hunn MFA'71 was recently promoted to full professor at Drexel University, where she teaches in the College of Media Arts and Design and the Pennoni Honors College. |

| Kulbhushan Jain MArch'66 recently won the award of distinction from Asia-Pacific UNESCO-Heritage 2005 for his conservation work at The Fort of Jadhpur "Maherangarh." He is emeritus professor of architecture at the School of Architecture at Ahmedabad. |
| James Juszczyk MFA'69 is one of the American abstract artists included in the exhibit Optical Simulations at the Yellow Bird Gallery, Newburgh, NY, through November 12. He recently participated in the group show Ideal at Metaphor contemporary art, Brooklyn, NY, and had a one-person show Freedom Within Boundaries at Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, PA. |
