Urshula Barbour MFA'94
principal of Pure+Applied, New York, designed the exhibition and catalogue "The Mythic City: Photographs of New York by Samuel Gottscho, 1925-1940," on view at the Museum of the City of New York through February 2006. Pure+Applied also designed an exhibit on the founder of Steuben Glass called "Frederick Carder: Glass, Passion, Invention," on view at Steuben Gallery through February 2006. Both exhibits were curated by Donald Albrecht. Upcoming projects include the exhibits "The Green House: New Directions in Sustainable Architecture" at the National Building Museum and "Dorothy Draper" at MCNY, both opening in 2006, and the book Design Like you Give a Damn: Architectural Responses to Humanitarian Crises edited by Cameron Sinclair and Kate Stohr of Architecture for Humanity.

Keith Evan Green C'85 PhD'98

associate professor of architecture, Clemson University, was awarded $360,000 from the National Science Foundation to support a three-year project entitled "Animated Work Environment [AWE]," part of his trans-disciplinary initiative focused on prototyping physical environments enhanced by information technologies and new materials for clients, situations and territories often overlooked by architects. His MArch thesis studio "Animated Architecture" was recognized by the AIA Committee on the Environment as "among the best practices in sustainable design education."

Ellen Kahn MFA'92
had an open studio November 4-5 at Studio 807, 526 West 26th Street, New York. Her work may be viewed online at www.ellenkahn.com.
Brian Lane MArch'90
principal, Koning Eizenberg Architecture, Santa Monica, CA reports that the October issue of Architecture featured the firm's new pre-K-12 school project, Herb Alpert Educational Village, Santa Monica. Koning Eizenberg received the 2005 Westside prize for the Hancock mixed-use project, West Hollywood and an AIA/LA merit award for the Standard Hotel, Los Angeles, and a Suzanne Felsen jewelry boutique designed by them opened on Melrose in LA in November.
Dmitri Wasilewski MCP'97
has accepted the position of director of land development for Portrait Homes' Mid-Atlantic division in Frederick, MD.
1970s
Stephen Kieran, FAIA MArch'76 and James Timberlake, FAIA MArch'77
report that their book, refabricating ARCHITECTURE: How Manufacturing Methodologies are Poised to Transform Building Construction, has sold over 5,000 copies in 16 months. In the book the founding partners of KieranTimberlake Associates advocate a shift in current thinking about architecture, arguing that the profession has much to learn from the design and production paradigms of the automotive, marine and aerospace industries.
Glen S. LeRoy, FAIA, FAICP, MArch'76 MCP'76
has been named dean of the College of Architecture and Design at Lawrence Technological University, Southfield, MI. Prior to joining LTU, Glen was a principal with Gould Evans Associates, Kansas City, MO.
Marianna Thomas MArch'73
reports
that "with our footings in the Philadelphia area for 25 years, Marianna Thomas Architects has been working also in Winston-Salem, NC. Our fellowship hall addition, new Chapel and renovation of St. Paul's Episcopal Church won the 2005 Carraway Award of Merit. Construction has just begun at Salem Academy and College on restoration/renovation of Single Sisters House, built in 1786 by Moravian settlers."

has an exhibition of small paintings at the Sundaram Tagore Gallery, 137 Greene Street, New York, December 7-12. Opening reception: Wednesday, December 7, 6:30-8:30pm.

1950s
Frederick A. Eckhart C'55 MCP'58
has been involved with educational programs for senior citizens (55 and older) through the Elderhostel-connected Veritas Society program at Bellarmine University, Louisville, KY for the past 10 years. They are currently in their 11th season, working on a program for the spring featuring the socio-politico side of Louisville's recent accomplishment of being the 16th largest Metro area (in terms of governance) in the US. Next fall, they are entertaining a course on the Design of Cities which will include the type of consortium in city planning and architcture that existed at Penn in 1957 when Eckhart found himself on a planning-design team with Charles Graves, dean emeritus, University of Kentucky.
Amaranth Roslyn Ehrenhalt BFA'51
will have a solo show of her abstract expressionist paintings at Gallery ART 21, 539 Alma Street, Palo Alto, CA through the end of December. Art critic Béatrice Comte wrote in Figaro magazine that "Ehrenhalt constantly renews herself without ever losing her identity" (April 2005).
