URBAN DESIGN CONFERENCE |
|
Gold Coast City, Australia will host the 2007 International Urban Design Conference, Waves of Change - Cities at Crossroads, September 6-8. The conference will feature national and international keynote presenters and includes workshops, debates and tours of Australia's fastest growing city, showcasing the attributes of a premier tourist destination, from tall buildings to medium density housing to the hinterland "Eco-village" development. project architect for OMA's China Central Television project in Beijing, reports an exhibition of the project at New York's MoMA: OMA in Beijing: China Central Television Headquarters, through February 26. Scheduled to open for the Beijing Olympics in 2008, the complex, which comprises three buildings and a media park on a site east of Beijing's Forbidden City, embodies a proposal for social and urban change through a rethinking of the tall building. | ||

chairs the Arts and Humanities Department at St. Louis Community College's Florissant Valley campus, which has one of the few two-year art departments to be nationally accredited, and offers programs in General Fine Arts, Photography, Graphic Communications, Art Education, and Philosophy/Humanities. Bob just completed his sabbatical project, in which he studied newly developed nontoxic printmaking techniques. He continues to judge numerous regional shows, work for the Artists' Advisory Board of the Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles, MO, lecture and exhibit extensively (recent solo shows were at Westminster College and Flo Valley), and is represented by Art Resources. | ||

founding principal of Interface Studio, announces that his firm was awarded the Silver Medal by AIA Philadelphia at their 2006 Design Awards for the Sheridan Street Housing project. The project proposes 13 green, affordable houses in North Philadelphia, and was featured in an article by architecture critic, Inga Saffron, in The Philadelphia Inquirer. | ||

Chief Urban Designer of Portland, Oregon, has been recently elected the US Representative on the Bureau of the International Federation of Housing and Planning (IFHP) based in The Hague, The Netherlands. In Portland he continues to develop a comprehensive knowledge base for its Central City to better inform short and long term urban design responses. An exhibition of his group's urban design maps, drawings, charts and diagrams is currently underway at the Marylhurst University's Art Gym. | |
| Sarah McCoubrey C'79 MFA'81
received a 2007 Fellowship for Creative and Performing Artists and Writers from the American Antiquarian Society (AAS), a national research library and learned society of American history and culture. This visiting fellowship is for historical research by creative artists, writers, film makers, journalists, and other persons whose goals are to produce imaginative, non-formulaic works dealing with pre-twentieth-century American history. McCoubrey will be doing research for her project, Hannah Morse: Landscape Painter. | |

founding partner of StastnyBrun Architects, received the 2006 Medal of Honor from the Northwest and Pacific region of AIA. He is the sixth member from the region to receive this honor, which was awarded for the overall impact his projects, planning leadership and dedication to design excellence have had in the region. He worked closely with dozens of Native American groups to create cultural facilities that mirror their heritage, including the new Portland State University Native American Student and Community Center (at right). |
