How did you get interested in planning?
My mom studied city planning. When I was growing up,
we would drive around and she would comment on buildings, roads,
infrastructure and the city. I usually rolled my eyes and complained
saying she was boring me. Then I went to college and found myself
commenting to my peers about buildings, roads, infrastructure and
the city. I realized I had inherited my mother’s love of
cities.
What kind of work experience do
you have?
My first year out of college I was a 9 th grade Spanish
teacher at an inner city charter school in Boston . Then I was
a paralegal at a real estate law firm in Boston for one year.
Why did you choose Penn to study
city planning?
I went to the Open House for accepted students in April.
I talked to a few of the current students and they seemed to be
pleased with the program. I was also impressed with the opportunities
Penn’s planning department had to offer.
What has been your favorite class
so far?
My favorite class this semester was Structures of Cities
and Regions. It was a difficult class with plenty of schoolwork,
but I learned a lot.
What are your career ambitions?
My career ambition is to enjoy my profession. Upon graduating
I would like to work for a real estate and/or urban design firm.
