Student FAQ
Q: Why do I have to apply to the CREDD program?
A: There are a limited number of slots in the program (currently 20), in order to assure that courses will not be oversubscribed. Applicants are judged on GREs, previous work experience, and previous courses taken.

Q: If I am accepted into the 1-year post-professional Master of Architecture program, can I apply to the CREDD?
A: Yes, but it will take you an extra semester to complete the five courses in addition to the degree requirements.

Q: If I have an open elective, can I take a course before I am accepted into the CREDD program?
A: Yes. Any courses taken successfully will be credited retroactively.

Q: How do I preregister in a Wharton course?
A: Non-Wharton students cannot preregister in Wharton graduate courses (if you try, the computer will automatically show the course as "full," which may or may not be the case). You should go to class and wait until the Wharton auction period is over to see if there are places. Talk to the instructor. If there is space, you will be able to register as a non-MBA student.

Q: As a CREDD student, do I have any priority in registering?
A: Yes. There are 5 reserved places each semester for CREDD students in REAL 721 and REAL 804, and 10 places in ARCH 768. You must submit your name to the program director before the beginning of the semester; you will be notified that you are on the reserved list. Registration is automatic and will occur after the auction period, about two weeks into the semester.

Q: Why do I have to take FNCE 601?
A: FNCE 601 is a prerequisite for REAL 721. We have found that students need a solid grounding in financial analysis in order to successfully complete the real estate finance course. If you have difficulty getting a place in FNCE 601, or if you have a scheduling conflict, you may take FNCE 100 (the undergraduate equivalent course) as a substitute, with the permission of the program director. You can pre-register in FNCE 100 in the usual fashion, by computer (there is no Wharton auction for undergrad courses). Be aware that FNCE 100 is also given in the summer semester.

Q: What if I have taken microeconomics or business courses in college?
A: If you have taken microeconomics courses in college you may not have to take FNCE 601, and may substitute another course. See the program director.

Q: Is it possible to complete the CREDD at the same time as my degree?
A: Yes, but you will have to plan your curriculum carefully, especially if you are in a two-year degree program. Not all courses are given in all semesters, and there are also prerequisites to consider. There may be scheduling conflicts (especially with design studios). We will work with you to try to resolve issues that arise.

Q: Is there any particular order in which I should take the CREDD courses?
A: For most students, the most convenient way to fulfill the CREDD course requirements is to take courses in the following order: first, FNCE 601, as soon as possible, whenever you have a free elective; REAL 721 in the fall semester of your last year, or CPLN 680 in the spring; ARCH 768 in the spring semester of your final year; ARCH 762 in the spring semester of your last year, or the spring semester of the year before; REAL 804 in any semester.
