2011 Commencement Speaker Announced

Philip Enquist, FAIA, partner in charge of urban design and planning at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, LLP (SOM), will be the University of Pennsylvania School of Design's 2011 commencement speaker.

Philip Enquist, FAIA, partner in charge of urban design and planning at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, LLP (SOM), will be the University of Pennsylvania School of Design's 2011 commencement speaker. His topic will be "The Endless City."

Enquist has distinguished himself as a leader in dynamic, large-scale design that strengthens the physical, social and intellectual infrastructure of cities. Over the last two decades, he has directed development and redevelopment initiatives for college campuses, existing city neighborhoods, new cities, rural districts, downtown commercial centers, port areas and, in the case of Bahrain, master planning an entire nation.

Enquist graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) School of Architecture with a Bachelor of Science in 1974 and a Master of Architecture in 1979. He joins a list of celebrated commencement speakers at the School, including Barry Bergdoll (2010), Maurice Cox (2000), Gary Hack (2008), David Orr (2007), Steve Wynn (2006) and Billie Tsien (2005).
