It’s been five years since Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc in coastal New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, and cities in its path are still coming to grips with how to minimize the risks from extreme weather as sea levels continue to rise. As part of this effort, four faculty members in the departments of Architecture and Landscape Architecture recently unveiled their firms’ designs to tackle the future of infrastructure and resilience in the affected areas.
The four teams chosen by the Regional Plan Association (RPA), the nonprofit leading the effort with support from a Rockefeller Foundation grant, include Matthijs Bouw, Lecturer and Rockefeller Urban Resilience Fellow at PennDesign, whose firm One Architecture has teamed up with Only If; Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture Christopher Marcinkoski, whose firm PORT Urbanism is collaborating with RANGE, led by Ellen Neises, Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture; and Architecture Lecturer Dan Wood, co-founder of WORKac Architects.
