Congratulations to Ben Bryant, MCP '09 and Planning Workshop Instructor, who won a $297,000 grant as part of the Knight Foundation Cities Challenge. Ben's concept, "The Pop-Up Pools Project”—selected from more than 7,000 ideas submitted— will animate Philly's public pools with movable seating, shade, planters and fun programming like games and food-truck visits. From The Philadelphia Inquirer:
"We know how to make good open spaces now," he said. "This is a way to take that knowledge and see if we can branch it out more equitably across the city, throughout the neighborhoods."
