Tuesday, October 16 & Wednesday, October 17 CLAY OPEN STUDIO FOR THE EMPTY BOWLS PROJECT 2-5PM, Addams Hall Clay Studio
The Fine Arts Program is hosting the clay open studio in support of the Empty Bowls Project, a grassroots movement to help end hunger. Students are invited to use the Addams clay studio and create bowls using plaster press-molds. Within an hour, you will learn to make hand-made bowls, and support the Empty Bowls cause by donating them. Contact Sumi Maeshima at smaeshima@gmail.com now for access to the clay studio in the Addams building on October 16, 17, 24, and 25 between 2 pm and 5 pm. Faculty and staff members are also welcome.
Thursday, October 18 FIA BACKSTRÖM Visiting Artist 6:30PM, Institute for Contemporary Art
Fia Backström's work focuses on the fabric of our co-existence with and construction of subjectivity through the social life of images. Backström works with structures of political address, corporate logic, and pedagogical methods, destabilizing authorship and the semiotics of images.
through January 18 UNCOMMON MODERN: Commercial Vernacular Architecture in Greater Philadelphia, 1937-1970 10AM-5PM, Kroiz Gallery, Architectural Archives Works on view include a remarkable series of recent photographs by Betsy Manning as well as rare original drawings by figures such as Louis I. Kahn who contributed to this important and underappreciated architectural legacy.
