Ben Krone earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Florida in 1999 followed by two years of professional practice with Valerio Dewalt Train Architects in Chicago. In 2004 Ben received his Masters degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, where he was the recipient of the McKim Prize for Excellence in design and the Sol Kaplan Traveling fellowship. After six years with SHoP Architects in New York, in 2007 he founded Gradient, a design studio whose work focuses on procedural approaches to manipulating surface systems and bridging the gap between architecture, product design and graphic art. Gradient has a number of current projects which include a installation for the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum and several loft residences. Ben's work has appeared in a number of art and design publications such as 'Surface' and Architectural Record. In June 2007 he was guest lecturer at the 'Festarch' architecture conference in Sardinia Italy, where he spoke about bridging digital design and manual methods of production.
