Christopher Marcinkoski joined the faculty of Landscape Architecture in 2010. He is a licensed architect and a founding director of PORT Architecture + Urbanism, an award-winning urban research and design consultancy based in New York and Chicago. PORT synthesizes expertise in architecture, urbanism, landscape and planning to develop innovative solutions to design challenges at every scale of the urban landscape. The work looks to leverage the latent potentials embedded within urban networks related to mobility, energy, water, sanitation and ecology to generate new hybrid forms of collective space and urban public realm.

The practice is the recipient of numerous design awards, including mentions or finalists in multiple Van Alen Institute competitions (Urban Voids - 2006, Gateway National Park - 2007, and Life at the Speed of Rail - 2011); First Prize in the 2010 FORMCities Design Competition for its “Re-Cultivating the Forest City” project; a unanimous First Prize in the UCLA/cityLAB WPA 2.0 Infrastructural Design Competition in 2009 for its “Carbon T.A.P.//Tunnel Algae Park” project; and a 2004 International Bauhaus Award for research into “Combinatory Urbanisms.” Marcinkoski and PORT’s design work and research have been exhibited and published internationally in a number of journals and books, among them Praxis 13 - Eco-Logics; A+T In Common (Spain); Gateway: Visions for an Urban National Park (Princeton Architectural Press); Landscape Architecture China; Metropolis Magazine; Concept Magazine (Korea); and 20|20: Editorial Takes On Architectural Discourse (Architectural Association Publications). Marcinkoski has lectured throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia on a variety of topics regarding contemporary issues of urbanism.

Marcinkoski holds a B.Arch. with distinction from The Pennsylvania State University and a M.Arch. from Yale University, where he was awarded the H.I. Feldman Prize for Design Excellence and the Christopher Tunnard Fellowship for Achievement in Urban Planning. In 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Skidmore, Owings and Merrill Fellowship for Urban Design. Christopher is the editor of Perspecta 38 | Architecture After All (MIT Press, 2006).

Prior to his appointment at PennDesign, Marcinkoski was a Senior Associate at James Corner Field Operations in New York City where he led the office’s large-scale master planning and urban design projects including the Shenzhen Qianhai Water City, Shelby Farms Park, the West Side Rail Yards, Nya Arstafeltet - New Arsta Field and the San Juan Knowledge Corridor, among many others.
