Ali Rahim is an Architect, Director of Contemporary Architecture Practice and member of the permanent architecture design faculty where he co-ordinates the final year of the Master of Architecture Design Program. Mr. Rahim has served as the Studio Hadid Visiting Architecture Professor at the University of Applied Arts [die Angewandte Kunst] Vienna, the Louis I Kahn Visiting Architecture Professor at Yale University and as a Visiting Architecture Professor at Harvard University.
Mr. Rahim's books include Catalytic Formations: Architecture and Digital Design, December 2006, currently in its second edition and issues of Architecture Design (AD); Elegance, 2007, co-edited with Hina Jamelle, Contemporary Techniques in Architecture, 2002 and Contemporary Processes in Architecture, 2000. Rahim has delivered public lectures extensively on his work nationally and internationally at Harvard, Yale, Penn, SCI Arc, Georgia Tech, University of Toronto, Architectural Association and the Bartlett, London, TU Delft, Netherlands, Universitat Internacional Catalunya, Barcelona, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and the American University Sharjah, UAE to name a few.
Contemporary Architecture Practice was founded in 1999 and is located in SoHo, New York City. Contemporary Architecture Practice has established an award winning profile in futuristic work using digital design and production techniques. Their portfolio includes a wide range and scales of work from product design to high-rises. Contemporary Architecture Practice's work was most recently on exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. and Past venues include the Serpentine Gallery, London, Entry 2006 Expo in Essen, Germany, Artists Space, New York, Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), London and the Shanghai Architectural Biennales in 2005 and 2006 respectively.
Rahim's projects have been published extensively in the international press including the New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Harvard Design Magazine, Domus Italy, Frame Netherlands, Monitor Moscow and Der Spiegel Berlin. Past publications include Architectural Design London, A+U Tokyo, Yale Constructs, Arkiteketen Denmark, Slate, Space China, Architettura Milan to name a few. CAP was awarded the Architectural Record Product of the Month for their lighting fixture titled 'Opale' in 2007 and the Outstanding Award for FEIDAD 2006. They were also selected for Phaidon Press's 10x10_2, curated by "10 internationally prominent critics, architects and curators," and Architectural Record's Design Vanguard 2004, as one of eleven architectural practices worldwide "building the future of architecture".
