Professor Weinberger teaches courses in transportation planning and analysis and planning methods.
Her areas of expertise include land use transportation interactions, travel demand forecasting, urban economics and econometric analysis for transportation planning. Her interests include urban mass transportation, transportation and economic development, transportation investment and location decisions of households and firms.
Prior to joining the faculty at PennDesign, Dr. Weinberger worked in private practice, most recently as a Principal with Nelson\Nygaard consulting associates, managing their New York City office, and prior to that she served as the director of Multidisciplinary Studies in the transportation planning practice of URS Corporation's New York office.
New York's Mayor Bloomberg hired Professor Rachel Weinberger, as Senior Policy Advisor for Transportation to work under Deputy Mayor Dan Doctoroff and his director of long-range strategic planning to develop a plan for New York.
Work/Research
She has worked on a wide range of transportation planning projects including transportation master plans, parking policy studies, mobility and access plans, ground side access to airports, adapting strategies of travelers in the New York Metropolitan region after 9/11 and econometric analyses of transportation investment on property value. She is currently working on a street management framework in Lower Manhattan to assist the New York City Department of Transportation program street use during reconstruction of the World Trade Center site and the rebuilding of the Lower Manhattan district; a parking policy evaluation for Philadelphia Center City; and an analysis exploring why it may be in the interest of rural and suburban counties to financially support urban mass transit.

Courses
Professor Weinberger teaches the Quantitative Analysis Methods course as well as Transportation Planning & Land Use and the Advance Transportation Seminar.
