Karl Wellman

Biography

Employed with the University of Pennsylvania since 1997, Karl manages design and construction as well daily operations and space planning for the six buildings that comprise PennDesign. He is tasked to ensure effective and efficient operations in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations. He also develops and implements new policies and procedures to improve operations. Under his supervision, t he office maintains the Master Calendar for all exhibition and review spaces, plans and coordinates special projects and annual events including Commencement, Awards Ceremony, Open House, Career Services Day, and numerous other PennDesign sponsored events. Karl acts as the Chief Safety and Security Officer for the school, managing all fire, security, and safety inspections on a routine basis while administering life and health safety policies.

Prior to PennDesign, Karl was employed with the School of Dental Medicine where he was Associate Director for seven years. While there he was a project manager for the construction of the 70,000 sq. ft. state of the art Robert Schattner Center.
