David M. Scolnic is a practicing attorney. He is a Shareholder and Chair of the Real Estate Department of Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller.
Mr. Scolnic concentrates his practice in real estate development. Mr. Scolnic has represented many prominent international, national and local corporations, lenders, developers, investors, real estate brokers, non-profit corporations and governmental and quasi-governmental entities. Mr. Scolnic is frequently involved in projects that involve public- private cooperation, with a focus on redevelopment projects in urban and “inner ring” suburban areas.
Mr. Scolnic has extensive experience representing a variety of individuals, developers and companies in all phases of their real estate activities, from purchasing raw ground through leasing and financing of office, retail, industrial and residential buildings in urban and suburban areas. He has particular experience representing prominent companies that do not consider themselves to be in the real estate business but nonetheless have substantial ongoing real estate needs. For example, Mr. Scolnic represents one of the nation’s largest publicly-held corporation specializing in rehabilitation and long-term acute care hospitals, a large, privately-held refrigerated warehouse company and one of the world’s largest manufacturers of paper hygiene products. He also spends a considerable amount of time engaged in pro-bono activities representing non-profit corporations engaged in transformational real estate projects.
Mr. Scolnic has taught and lectured on a variety of subjects, including construction contracts, leases, “brownfields” development, combining public and private investments in real estate development, real estate joint ventures, purchase and sale agreements, legal opinions and legal ethics
Mr. Scolnic was a co-chair of the first two years of the multi-session American Bar Association’s Community Outreach Program in Philadelphia. He has served on the Council of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Real Property Executive Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association.
Mr. Scolnic received his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1986, his Master of City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania in 1983 and his B.A. in Urban Studies from the University of Pennsylvania in 1982.
