Nick Hand

Lecturer

Nick Hand teaches the Data Wrangling class.  He is the Director of Finance, Policy, and Data in the City Controller's Office, where he leads a team working to produce data-driven, objective analysis of financial policy in the City of Philadelphia and improve transparency around the City's spending of taxpayer dollars. In his role at the City Controller's Office, he works to extract insights and tell stories from complex data sets. He graduated from Princeton with a B.A. in Astrophysics and from the University of California, Berkeley with a Ph.D. in Astrophysics. He uses his skills learned as a former academic to develop creative solutions to complex problems.

In his free time, he enjoys hacking away at open-source software, going for long runs with his wife, and throwing the ball for his very good dog.
