University Communication to International Students Who Requested Permission to Stay in On-Campus Housing
Dear Weitzman School International Students,
I hope that you are all doing okay given these unsettling circumstances. Please know that we – your department chairs, faculty, and the Weitzman staff – are here to help in any way that we can.
I am writing now because a handful of students who requested permission to remain in on–campus housing have let us know that they received approval from the University; however, the letter from the University was somewhat confusing so I will try to clarify the goal of this letter. Here are some key takeaways from the University’s message.
- If you received a letter indicating that "Your request to stay in on-campus University Housing has been approved at this time” then you are, indeed, approved to stay. However, the University's letter goes on to caution that despite approving your request, there is still significant concern about students remaining on campus. Therefore, the administration prefers that all students in Sansom Place East consider departing “in the interest of your health and safety, and the health and safety of the community.” In addition, any student remaining in Penn on-campus housing (e.g. Sansom Place East) must adhere to strict requirements related to "social distancing,” no visitors, and limited University services, among other things. - We want to make sure that any student who chooses to remain on campus understands the University's recommendation that students who are able to return home strongly consider doing so. We also want to make clear that we will work to accommodate your needs and provide you with support, whatever you decide, taking into account different time zones and Internet challenges.
