Mike Crane

Lecturer

Mike Crane is an artist based in New York. His work examines patterns of standardized production that remain unseen or out of view. He uses observational documentary methods and fictional staging techniques to reveal the human labor within these systems. His work was most recently included in the Kiemena program of documenta 14 (Kassel/Athens), Les Rencontres Internationales (Paris/Berlin), the Berlinale Forum Expanded and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin. Previous exhibitions and screenings include The Bronx Museum of Art (New York), Orgy Park (New York), Center for Contemporary Art Derry (Northern Ireland), FridayExit (Austria), Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane (Ireland), Chashama (New York), Carnegie International Lending Library of Transformazium (Pittsburg), The Banff Centre (Canada), and Silent Green Kulturquartier (Berlin). He was awarded the Brenda and Jamie Mackie Fellowship for Visual Arts at the Banff Centre, and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant for his film installation at Chetham's Library in Manchester, UK. In 2015, Crane was an artist in residence at the Triangle Arts Association in Brooklyn and the Rupert Centre in Vilnius, Lithuania. He was most recently an artist-in-residence at the 2016-2017 Smack Mellon studio program. Crane is a recipient of a 2015 Creative Capital visual arts grant.
