Ciudad de Guatemala Hotspots Studio

The Guatemala Studio is part of a larger research initiative of the Department of Landscape Architecture at Penn in conjunction with the School of Architecture of the Universidad de San Carlos, Guatemala. Guatemala City is one of 33 large “hotspot” cities—locations where there are conflict zones between urban growth and biodiversity. This studio is a case study which seeks to formulate alternative urbanization scenarios and explore new design tools that will guide urban growth whilst simultaneously fostering habitat conservation and restoration in a symbiotic manner.
