Doctoral student Eda Begum Birol and DumoLab Director Laia Mogas-Soldevila presented our new “Ecoliteracy for Resilient Commons” youth curriculum at NYC’s BioDesign Symposium 2026.
Developed with Penn GSE student and music teacher Santiago Cortes Mejia and senior process art teacher Sara Karlen. Remarks by our panel and keynote on the transition of biotechnology from scientific discovery to design action are celebrated in our research culminating in design-first participatory and place-based semester-long lesson plan on biomaterials for hyperlocal resilience. Delivered during the school-day with elementary learners and the Philadelphia School District our work aspires to help children and their community see themselves as change-makers and deliverers of climate change adaptive solutions instead of receivers.
