Mission Statement

Spark engages communities to provide career exploration and self-discovery opportunities that help middle school students understand, experience and pursue what’s possible.

Spark at Weitzman School:

Spark partners with Penn & Henry C. Lea School in West Philadelphia in bringing in career exploration and self-discovery opportunities that help them understand, experience and pursue what’s possible. In the fall seventh graders participate in Spark Labs, or on-site workshops, hosted at Weitzman School and other Penn graduate Schools. Graduate students & Penn employees guide students through structured, group activities that build skills and expand career options.

Spark Lab at Weitzman School will take place on Tuesday October 24th from 3-5pm (Meyerson Hall Lower Gallery). Please reach out to Joe Tripodi for more information.

In the spring, Spark matches 7th grade students with Weitzman School students based on common interests and skills for Workplace-Based Mentorships. Spark Students receive direct guidance from their Weitzman School Mentor and work together on a project related to their interests. Students visit Weitzman School over 13 weeks, culminating in Mentorships culminate in Share Your Spark, an event where students and mentors present their projects to their colleagues, friends, families and the community.

Spark Mentorships will take place from mid-February through mid-May (Tuesdays, 3-5pm at Penn). More information on how to signup will be shared at and after the October 24th Spark Lab.
