Alyson Rock

Prior to Penn, Alyson received her Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech where she spent a semester abroad studying the architectural heritage of Europe, a summer immersed in woodworking details of historic buildings during an internship at an architectural millwork company in New Orleans, and her final year exploring social and tectonic relationships between generations of people and architecture for her undergraduate thesis. After graduating from Virginia Tech, she spent a year working on residential projects at an architecture firm in Martha’s Vineyard that were deeply rooted in local building forms and material traditions to create a sense of place.

Alyson pursued the graduate program in Historic Preservation at Penn to fulfill her growing sense of agency to understand, protect, and contribute meaningfully to the continuum of the built environment. During her time at Penn, she became increasingly drawn to preservation’s role in sustainability and social justice. After her first year in the program, she interned at Stokes Architecture & Design where she gained experience working on rehabilitation projects throughout Philadelphia during the summer and continued working part-time during her final year. Alyson will join the firm full-time as an architectural designer upon graduation.
