Bhoomi Shah

Hi, my name is Bhoomi and I am from Vadodara, India. With an undergrad degree in Architecture from
India, I have professional experience in sustainable and vernacular architecture along with a brief
experience in the ecological restoration of brownfields. This experience guided me to pursue a master’s
degree in Landscape architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. After coming to Penn, I found myself
getting more involved in the discussions on the landscape architect’s role in responding to the climate
crisis. I got an opportunity to work with professors here and delve deeper into climate mitigation
strategies as a landscape project in the urban realm.

Climate crises are impacting the ecosystems both in tangible and intangible ways. The ghost forests, forests of dead trees, a result of sea level rise are the most visible and dramatic impact of Climate change. The Gardens of Ghost Forest is a botanical garden in the United States National Arboretum, Washington DC, that recreates the experience of ghost forests while providing space for research on adaptation, migration, and disappearance of tree species due to climate change. It intends to take the visitors fast forward into the future and experience the new ecosystem of Ghost forests while understanding the dramatic impacts of Climate change.
