Echo Ma

Echo Ma received her B.A. degree in Studio Arts from Bard College and is finishing her M.Arch. degree in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. Both of her previous art practice and her current architecture practice were influenced by postmodern philosophy, particularly by Derrida, Foucault, and Deleuze, emphasizing a post-Newtonian perspective that sees reality subjected to disorder, to discrepancies, and to time dilation. She just finished her thesis project Alpine Architecture: A Deleuzian Architectural Approach for the Descent Route of Mont Blanc, through which she explores the architectural application of the Deleuzian fold for high altitude architecture.
She is the recipient of the Will M. Mehlhorn Scholarship, a merit-based scholarship for best work in architecture theory, and a recipient of the Dales Travel Fellowship through a portfolio competition. Her architecture project Perpetual Dawn was selected as one of the Top 50 entries for Volume Zero Extreme Habitat Competition, her architectural drawing was selected for the Drawing of the Year 2021 Competition Shortlist and her group’s carnival-float design was selected as an honorable mention in the Schenk-Woodman Competition.
