I like the delicate balance between design and practice, the consistency of design language, and the ability to highlight the identity of a site. I like the sharpness of straight lines and the softness of curves. Studying architecture in China for five years, followed by landscape design at Upenn for three years, I relish large-scale designs, like urban design, where careful planning and relationships are key. At the same time, I cherish small-scale designs, like parks that can be tailored to specific needs, such as chair structures and planters.
Among the parks I've visited in Philadelphia, Sister Cities Park become my favorite for its charming animal-themed railings, rustic stone steps, cozy nets for lounging, and serene atmosphere, all thoughtfully managed with limited opening hours.
Hopefully, I could bring a little joy to people and animals through my own designs in the near future.
