702 Panama Studio - Located in the vibrant heart of Panama City, this studio blends the ecological corridor with the urban environment through the plaza and botanical gardens. The redesign of Albrook Airport as a botanical garden lends itself to three primary purposes: to showcase Panama's natural features, connect to the neighboring metropolitan park and Cerro Ancon, and to greater exposure to educational resources. The airport was formerly a swamp basin that is returned back to the community and environment, inviting visitors to explore and immerse themselves in the richness of Panama. Programming ranges from civic-focused, ethnobotany, to production-focused and are framed by water and ecological design components.
702 Studio Plus Sayre Courtyard - Working closely with the school and local community, we transformed an underutilized outdoor courtyard into a vibrant wellness space. We collaborated with the students for design iterations and the birdhouse designs, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in the project. The furniture and shade structures were built on site and we embraced the design-build process. We continued the project after the semester, enhancing the space with additional plantings and custom furniture. It was rewarding to work on such a special project and I am excited to see where the project goes.
