A Vision-Zero Planning Information System
Client: City of Houston Department of Public Works, Multimodal Safety & Design Branch
Vision Zero is a global movement with the ultimate goal of achieving zero traffic injuries or deaths. To achieve this, the City of Houston Department of Public Works is planning and constructing infrastructure that will improve the safety and accessibility of moving around the city. The goal of this project was to consolidate information about street and intersection features into a dashboard, so that planners can have all the information they need in one location. We also developed a safety index based on the machine learning model prediction so that planners can quickly see where safety interventions should be prioritized given present and potential future conditions in the city. This will allow the City of Houston Public Works Department to efficiently and proactively implement safety interventions, improving traffic safety and progressing Vision Zero across the city.
