Xiayu (Coco) Zhao
I am Xiayu Zhao, an architectural student deeply committed to sustainable and biophilic design principles. With a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and a first-class bachelor’s degree from the University of Liverpool, my educational and professional journey has always been guided by a dedication to integrating environmental responsibility and historical sensitivity into innovative design solutions.
Over the course of my eight-year academic path, I have undertaken projects that reflect my ability to blend traditional respect with contemporary innovation. These include the transformation of an abandoned reservoir into a sustainable community center and the revitalization of a historic bathhouse atop Roman ruins in Turkey. My professional experiences span internships at renowned architectural firms such as Perkins Eastman and Curtis + Ginsberg Architects, where I contributed to a diverse range of building projects from healthcare facilities to cultural buildings.
Additionally, I have explored stage and props design, leading a 20-person team to successfully design and execute a theater production at the University of Pennsylvania. This experience not only honed my leadership skills but also enriched my creative approach to architectural challenges. Certified as a LEED AP BD+C professional, I am dedicated to advancing sustainable architecture that enhances community well-being and environmental health.
