Dan Lu
I am a second-year Master of Science in Historic Preservation student at the University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in Preservation Planning. My work explores how digital tools, particularly GIS and web mapping, can be used to tell stories about historic places and empower communities.
This capstone project focuses on the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood of Philadelphia, using spatial analysis, census data, and web-based storytelling to visualize change, continuity, and resilience. By combining interactive maps with historical context, the project invites users to engage more deeply with the layered identity of this historic community.
With a background in Urban and Rural Planning, my academic and professional work has focused on cultural landscapes, heritage planning, and participatory preservation approaches. I am especially interested in how mapping technologies can support inclusive narratives and community-based decision-making.
