Lillia Schmidt
Lillia Schmidt is completing the three-year Master of Landscape Architecture program, after originally studying art history and urban studies. She came to landscape architecture through a deep love of public space, and her work is grounded in a belief in empathy as a guiding principle in both design thinking and problem solving. She is particularly interested in the role of democracy in shaping public spaces, and in the power of intentional, beautiful design to foster connection, joy, and play.
During her time at Penn, Lillia worked as a research assistant at the McHarg Center under the Constructing the American Public Realm initiative. There, she explored a deceptively simple question—How does your park get made?—using design communication as a tool to translate complex systems of planning, funding, and decision-making into accessible narratives.
